September Wellness Update: Flu Clinics, the Disease Reversal Symposium, and Measles

Drive-in flu clinic information, the October 10 Disease Reversal Symposium, and current measles guidance for our Delaware community.

Three things to know this month: our drive-in flu clinics are returning, the second annual Disease Reversal Symposium is coming October 10, and measles continues to circulate in Delaware and neighboring states.

Drive-in flu clinics

CDC recommends an annual flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older, with rare exceptions. Vaccination reduces flu illness and its complications and can also reduce the severity of illness in people who are vaccinated but still get sick. Adults 65 and older bear the greatest burden of severe flu disease: in recent years they have accounted for an estimated 70–85% of seasonal flu-related deaths. Vaccination during pregnancy also protects the pregnant patient and helps protect the baby during the first months after birth, before the baby is old enough for a flu vaccine.

Wilmington drive-in schedule

  • When: Tuesdays, 10–11 a.m., and Thursdays, 2–3 p.m., from September through the end of 2026
  • Where: The parking area beside our Wilmington office at 3411 Silverside Road, Springer Building, Suite 100
  • Appointments: None needed—just drive up
  • What to wear: A shirt that makes it easy to reach your upper arm

These clinics are open to all Progressive Health patients, including our Newark patients. You may also receive a flu shot during a scheduled office visit at either location.

Clinic plans may change because of weather or vaccine availability. Please use our contact page or send a message through the patient portal if you would like to confirm before coming.

Measles is circulating in our region

Case counts change frequently, so the figures below are dated September 2, 2026 and link to the agencies maintaining the latest information.

  • Delaware: The Division of Public Health reports 22 confirmed cases, all in Kent County; seven are in children younger than 10. Delaware confirmed its first case in more than a decade on July 20 and declared an outbreak on July 22. Follow the Delaware measles dashboard for updates.
  • Pennsylvania: The Department of Health reported 497 cases across 34 counties as of August 31. See the Pennsylvania update.
  • Maryland: The Department of Health reported 31 cases as of August 27. Its August 24 outbreak announcement included five cases in Cecil County and additional cases in Carroll and St. Mary’s counties. See the Maryland outbreak announcement.

Nationally, CDC reported 2,903 confirmed cases as of August 27, already the highest annual total since 1991. CDC reports that 94% of 2026 cases occurred in people who were unvaccinated or whose vaccination status was unknown. These figures are preliminary and update weekly on the CDC measles case page.

How to know whether you are protected

Two properly timed MMR doses are about 97% effective against measles; one dose is about 93% effective. People with two documented doses generally do not need a measles booster.

Children routinely receive their first MMR dose at 12–15 months and their second at 4–6 years. The number of doses recommended for an adult depends on age and exposure risk. Most adults born in 1957 or later need at least one documented dose, while international travelers, healthcare personnel, college students, and some people at higher risk during an outbreak need two.

If you cannot find your records, ask your healthcare provider or check Delaware’s DelVAX public portal. Do not assume that everyone should simply receive another dose: people who are pregnant or severely immunocompromised should not receive MMR, and some other circumstances require individual guidance.

Before international travel, infants 6–11 months should receive an early MMR dose. Travelers 12 months and older should have evidence of two doses or another accepted form of immunity. See CDC’s travel guidance.

Symptoms and possible exposure

Measles symptoms can begin 7–21 days after exposure. They commonly start with fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. A rash usually follows, beginning on the face or at the hairline and spreading downward.

Measles can remain infectious in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves. If you think you were exposed or develop symptoms, call your healthcare provider before entering a waiting room or emergency department so the facility can prevent exposure to other patients. Seek urgent care for severe symptoms, but notify the facility before arrival.
